A new Lidl has just opened up in my closest town and as I have heard such great things I thought I would give it a try. It is amazing! The bread baked on their on-site bakery is a little too divine. One of the main purposes for my visit was to sample their booze selection which has come highly recommended from friends since the new range launched last year. I was hoping to see a larger selection of bubbles as I had looked on the Lidl website to swat up on their stock before visiting but part of the charm of shopping at Lidl and Aldi is you never know what will be on the shelves.
The one I found was Comte de Senneval at £9.95. Bargain! I am by no means a wine/champagne expert but I know what I like. To give you an idea I like dry flavours – My favourite champagnes are Verve Cliquot and Laurent Perrier but I also love a Prosecco as long as it isn’t too fruity; white wine is Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc and rose is only the very palest blush.
The verdict Blending the same three grape varieties as Verve: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meaner and Chardonnay, the flavour is light and delicious. It certainly doesn’t taste anything like the £9.95 price tag and to be honest, it can easily compete with my previous favourites. I would say it is an easy drinking champagne that can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with light summer dishes. This will definitely be my champagne of the summer. Anyone have any other budget champagne/wine recommendations?
p.s. Pretty proud of my wonderfully blousey white peonies in the background, grown in my very own garden!
Thanks, I’ll try it! You should try Aldi’s Freeman’s Bay – like Oyster Bay but better!
Ooh thanks, will definitely try it! X
Hi. Not tried the champagne heard great things about it though. I regularly shop at both although they are both some miles away but well worth it for great quality and £’s. Aldi’s has a “like” Pimms called Austins???, you’d think after the amount we’ve drunk I’d remember the full name.To get back to the original whatever! the like Pimms is lovely, scrumtious. Also the Belini’s are divine. Give it a try, won’t be let down
