Holiday reads – The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins

I have dyslexia and am an incredibly slow reader, as in ridiculously, frustratingly, tear-your-hair-out slow. As is such, when I read a book I put a lot of effort in and so I want a lot out.

It has to grip me from the first chapter otherwise it will take me no less than a year to get through; keep me guessing right to the end (mysteries are my thing) and hopefully catch me out (guessing whodunit throughout the book and telling a very uninterested Oliver about my theories is one of my annoying habits).

The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins fits pretty much all of that criteria. The story is fast paced and even with my pre-mentioned reading pace I finished in two days. I couldn’t put it down and was constantly thinking about the characters and what was coming next. This being said, if you’re a stickler for detail then this book may frustrate you; there are several elements that I found myself asking how that could have happened when x, y and z had happened. The premise is slightly ridiculous too but I don’t want to give away any plot details so you’ll just have to trust me that if you can suspend your disbelief for a couple of days then you’ll enjoy this book.

Basically, if you enjoyed Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn or Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson then this book is for you.

I got my copy of The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins from Amazon (currently only available in hardback).

If you’ve already read it then what did you think? Did you enjoy it?

I just started reading this last night! I only got to the end of the first ‘Rachel’ chaos and I’m hooked. Got that sense of foreboding that all isn’t right…
