I haven’t talked about this much, probably because I’m in a state of total denial, but in the next couple of months we are starting major renovations on our house. We’re talking new heating, electrics, plaster, flooring and ceilings oh and windows in every single room. There isn’t a room that won’t be touched so we have decided that the only sensible thing to do with two small children is move out to the calm of a rented property that will hopefully have all it’s walls and a working heating system. Yay.
At the moment I’m a bit of a deer in headlights so I’m immersing myself in the fun parts of the project rather than actually getting stuck in to the nitty gritty of how much skirting board needs ordering 🙈 because the pretty part is just as important right?!
One of the rooms that I’m most excited about designing the scheme for is Poppy’s room. Her imagination is running wild at the moment and she comes up with the most elaborate stories about princesses and dragons and fairies and dinosaurs and all manner of creatures. I really want to create a room that will feed that imagination and send her off to sleep dreaming of adventures. Not the scary kind though as we’re just entering the overactive imagination+sleep=nightmares stage.
Pink is without doubt her favourite colour but I’d like to balance it out with a subtle pastel palette with accents of gold and include lots of nature related decorative pieces as she’s obsessed with bugs and the outdoors.
The big decisions
I want the room to be calming and tranquil and you can’t beat grey walls for an instant dose of zen. The room will be flooded with natural light having two large windows so I’m leaning towards the darker of the two above.
Both will go perfectly with either of these beauties of Peony & Sage wallpapers although knowing how much Poppy love bunnies I might have to go for the sweet Rabbit All Star.
If I decide to paint all of the walls then I’ll go for this Cole & Son whimsical pink stars all over the ceiling. I adore the dark blue and gold from this range too.
If I could steer Poppy away from pink then I’d just love for her to have this dreamy woodland stars print wallpaper, also from Cole & Son.
I’d like to keep the curtains fairly neutral in a spot, stripe or bunny but add a bit of fun with a pom pom trim as seen in these curtains made by Peony and Sage (left) and Louise Jackson (right).
Dressing the room
Poppy asked last night if she could have a pink bed. Well, could this Incy Interiors metal frame bed be more perfect?
Adore this Dreamy canopy from Liv and Primrose in either the light grey or pale pink. Can see it working beautifully over the bed or in the corner of the room to create a secret den.
Anthropologie House & Home section is honestly one of my favourite departments of any shop. The only problem is how frequently they change the stock! So many times I’ve fallen in love with things then gone back online a week later and they’ve sold out, never to return 😭 so I’ll be throwing caution to the wind and purchasing these totally amazing bee tie backs as one of my very first purchases for Poppy’s new room. Just don’t know if I can take the heart ache of losing them!
Love the shape, hint of soft pastels and gentle taper on the legs of these La Redoute nesting tables.
I never have enough storage in Poppy’s room at the moment so will be going storage crazy in the new one. Love the simplicity of this White Company tall boy and wardrobe.
And would add a bit of subtle character with these beautiful ceramic handles, these fab bunnies or these star handles. All from the extensive range on www.notonthehighstreet.com.
I also adore this sweet range from Sass & Belle.
The finishing touches
I love the idea of personalising her room as much as possible. We all know I love me some personalisation 😄.
This Little Cloud Liberty print wire name is so pretty and comes in lots of other Liberty prints.
I found this idea via Pinterest from a babyshower on www.catchmyparty.com. Letters and heads of faux flowers are pretty inexpensive from Amazon and Ebay but put together and mounted on a wall would look really effective. Love that the letters aren’t fully covered leaving just a hint of the crisp white letter form. Will share the final article if I manage to do it.
I’m so excited about finding these amazing star and sequin storage baskets. I’ll take all of them thank you!
Matalan have some brilliant interiors pieces at even better prices. Love the shape of this Bunny wooden LED light.
Poppy asked me only the other day if she could have a mobile in her room to help her sleep. Never having got one for her as a baby I thought she was past it but apparently not! This adorable Liberty print cloud and raindrop mobile from Willa and Bobbin would be perfect.
Poppy can’t sleep without the soft glow of a nightlight. We have used our fab bunny tail one for the last couple of years but think this beaut of a gold-topped mushroom would look great sitting next to the bunny.
H&M are always one of my first ports of call for interiors. They have some brilliantly humorous pieces in the children’s section like this small stoneware rabbit pot. Perfect for hair bobbles and clips.
The sweetest white luggy would be great for extra storage.
I’d love for Poppy to be able to retreat to her room and play if she wants to escape the whirlwind that is her brother. She’s just at the stage where she creates whole characters and acts out scenarios for her toys whether they’re dinosaurs, farm animals or dolls. I’d love her to have something like a doll’s house or this totally adorable little doll’s cot to play with. Endless role play possibilities and great storage for all her soft toys when she’s not playing with them.
Honestly I could go on and on with the beautiful things that I’d like to include in her room but here’s a starting point at least!
If you see anything that you think would fit right in then please send me a link! Or have any advice on creating the perfect children’s room please pass on the knowledge 💕
Beautiful ideas. I bet Poppy’s going to love her room once it’s complete!!
Oh Wow I think I may hire you if we do up my daughter’s room! All your ideas are amazing. I love the canopy 🙂 Thanks for sharing with #bloggersbest
